Fogging plan gets thumbs-up
Steinbach city council approved to the practice of mosquito
fogging Wednesday morning. Mayor Chris Goertzen and Councillors Abe
Hiebert and Art Rempel all sided with Councillor Michael Zwaagstra who
introduced an motion authorizing city staff to conduct fogging when
warranted, based on weekly trap counts, the presence of culex tarsalis
mosquitoes, soil saturation levels, larvae development levels and
citizen complaints. Councillors Jac Siemens and Roy Enns voted against
the plan, both arguing the policy required more detail. A more
comprehensive plan is to be put in place for 2011.
